Jefferson, Alfred, Hunt: a dream 200m in Rome

The Golden Gala is getting faster and faster! On June 4, the world champion in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, will compete against the Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred, and the world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt. Tickets are available on TicketOne.

Rome is set to host the queens of global sprinting. After the major announcement featuring Noah Lyles in the men’s 100m, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea is set to reveal an exciting women’s 200m race that promises to be among the best seen at the Olympic Stadium. The fifth leg of the Wanda Diamond League will showcase a thrilling showdown between Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Julien Alfred, and Amy Hunt, with more potential surprises expected in the coming weeks.

This race will be one of the highlights of the evening on June 4, and fans can experience it from the stands or curves of the Olympic Stadium (tickets available on TicketOne). There’s also the chance of breaking the 200m meeting record, currently held by Shericka Jackson from 2022 at 21.91 seconds, which remains the only sub-22 performance recorded at Italy’s premier one-day meeting.

JEFFERSON-WOODEN – The uncontested queen of sprinting in 2025, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (USA), arrives in Rome with three gold medals. At the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, she won the 100m with an impressive time of 10.61 seconds, making her the fourth-fastest woman of all time. Her 200m performance was equally remarkable, clocking in at 21.68 seconds, which ranks eighth all-time. She also claimed gold in the USA’s 4×100 relay. For the 25-year-old, this will be her first race in Italy and her debut at the Golden Gala. US sprinters have won this event eight times, including the last two editions with Brittany Brown in 2024 and Anavia Battle in 2025.

ALFRED – Julien Alfred (St. Lucia) has never competed in Italy, giving the Olympic Stadium crowd a unique opportunity to celebrate the athlete who made history by winning gold in the 100m at the Paris Olympics, setting a personal best of 10.72 seconds. She also earned a silver medal in the 200m at the same event and dominated the 60m at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2024. Her honours include two Diamond League trophies for the 100m, bronze in the 100m at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, and a recent bronze medal in the 60m at the World Indoor Championships in Torun.

HUNT – Britain’s Amy Hunt will race at the Olympic Stadium one year after finishing second at the previous Golden Gala with a time of 22.67 seconds. In Tokyo, she reached new heights by securing a silver medal in the 200m, running a personal best of 22.08 seconds in the semifinals before finishing with 22.14 seconds in the final. Rome has already been kind to her; she won gold in the relay at the 2024 European Championships, just months before claiming Olympic silver in the 4x100m in Paris.
