Allman, Kerr, Hall, LaFond: four olympic champions join star-studded line-up for Golden Gala Pietro Mennea

The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea – Presented by IP, Italy’s prestigious leg of the Wanda Diamond League, is set to welcome four more Olympic champions to its world-class line-up. On Friday, June 6, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome will host an unforgettable evening of athletics as Valarie Allman (discus throw), Hamish Kerr (high jump), Quincy Hall (400m), and Thea LaFond (triple jump) join the event. These newly announced stars from Paris 2024 add to an already glittering field that includes Beatrice Chebet (5000m) and Miltiadis Tentoglou (long jump), who are slated to face Italian contenders Nadia Battocletti and Mattia Furlani.

  • Valarie Allman (USA), two-time Olympic gold medalist (Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024), returns to the Golden Gala following her 2023 victory in Florence. The American discus thrower recently threw a personal best of 73.52m in Ramona, Oklahoma — the best mark in the event since 1989, and fifth all-time globally.
  • Hamish Kerr (New Zealand), Paris 2024 high jump gold medalist with a clearance of 2.36m, and World Indoor Champion in Glasgow 2024, makes his second Golden Gala appearance after placing fourth in Florence two year ago.
  • Quincy Hall (USA), Olympic champion in the 400m with an outstanding 43.40 at the Stade de France, and 2023 World Champion in the 4x400m relay, will compete in Rome for the first time.
  • Thea LaFond (Dominica), triple jump gold medallist at both the 2024 World Indoor Championships (15.01m) and Paris Olympics (15.02m), also makes her Golden Gala debut.

“Another four top-tier names join the Golden Gala lineup”, said Meeting Director Marco Sicari, “making it a night to remember. We had already reached preliminary agreements with three of them last year, and it will be a pleasure to see them compete on the track and field of the Stadio Olimpico. The line-up for all events is nearly complete—only a few spots remain, intentionally left open to assess the start of the outdoor season”.

Rome is eagerly awaiting the return of world-class athletics: “Following the 2024 European Championships, and a Golden Gala edition recognized for its highest-ever technical performance since the Diamond League’s inception in 2010, the meet returns to its early June slot. It’s a unique opportunity for fans across Italy to see the greatest national and international stars live, in what is truly a golden era for track and field”.
