The first athletes who will take part in the 34th edition of the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, the fourth leg of the IAAF Diamond League, on Thursday at the Olympic Stadium, arrived this morning in Rome.

Golden Gala: the first athletes arrive in Rome

Among the first athletes to arrive in the Eternal City there are Justin Gatlin, who won the 100 metres last year beatingJamaican Usain Bolt, Lashawn Merritt, who clocked an impressive 43.97 on Saturday evening in Eugene and Will Claye, who leapt to 17.66 in the Eugene Diamond League meeting, Australian Sally Pearson, Olympic and World champion in the 100 metres hurdles. They had a long day of rest to recover from the jet-leg. Two defections in the cast of the meeting: U.S. hurdler Lashinda Demus (400hs) and the French sprinter Jimmy Vicaut (100m).

CLINICS: GATLIN AND PEARSON WITH 150 YOUNGSTERS
Tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd June) the traditional kids’ clinic will take place in the Marmi Stadium Pietro Mennea with some stars of the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea and young Rome athletes. No less than 150 students from the athletics schools of the Lazio Regional Fidal Committee, will attend the athletics clinic with Australian hurdler Sally Pearson, US sprinter Justin Gatlin, St. Kitts and Nevis sprinter Kim Collins and Italian 100 metres hurdler Veronica Borsi.
