Another 2.40m high jump performer has been added to the super high jump field at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea on 6th June at the Rome Olympic Stadium. Ukraine’s 31-year-old Andiy Protsenko, who joined the exclusive 2.40m club by clearing this height at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting, will jump in front of the Curva Sud Stand, which will be livened up by a special entertainment. Protsenko is another jumper to be followed carefully by all those athletes, who bid to win the high jump competition, which starts at 20.15. During the 2019 indoor season Protsenko cleared 2.30m. This stand-out jumper won the world indoor bronze medal in Sopot in 2014 and the European outdoor silver medal in Zurich in the same season. He replaces Olympic gold medallist Derek Drouin, who was forced to pull out of the meeting. He can add further excitement to the most eagerly awaited competition in the Rome Olympic Stadium.
For this meeting European Indoor champion and Italian record holder Gianmarco Tamberi is preparing a surprise for his fans and is set to light up the Italian capital for his outdoor debut. The high-quality line-up is completed by Bohdan Bondarenko, the third best performer in history with 2.42m in 2014 and 2013 world outdoor champion, by Australia’s Brandon Starc (2.36m), by London 2017 world bronze medallist Majd Eddin Ghazal (2.36m), by reigning European champion Mateusz Przbylko (PB 2.35m) and Japan’s Naoto Tobe, who cleared 2.35m during last indoor season.
