The biggest star will be pole vault Olympic champion and World record holder Renaud Lavillenie. No pole vaulter in history has ever been able to defy the gravity, like the 28-yeear-old French vaulter, who won seven European Outdoor or Indoor titles in his career. He vaulted 6.16m (the same height of a two-storey building) in Donetsk on 15 February 2014 under the roof of “His Majesty” Sergey Bubka. All the biggest stars of the last three decades have competed on the runway of the Olympic Stadium. Historic feats of the most acrobatic athletics discipline have been achieved in this stadium. The last record was broken by Russian czarina Yelena Isinbayeva who thrilled the Rome crowd in 2008 when she broke the World record clearing 5.03m and went on to win her second Olympic gold medal in Bejing. Before her the Rome meeting was highlighted by the unforgettable head-to-head battle in 1984 where Bubka and French vaulter Thierry Vigneron broke the world record twice in the same meeting to the 5.94m clearance vaulted by the former Soviet vaulter who still holds the Golden Gala record. This meeting record is under threat considering the standard reached by le “Roi” Lavillenie, who dominated the first five editions of the Diamond League and cleared 22 times over 5.94 and 15 times over 6 metres in his career.
