The IAAF Diamond League has announced the programme of the 2016 Diamond Races. In each of the 32 event disciplines there is a Diamond Race where points are available throughout the 14-meeting season. The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, the 5th leg of the 2016 IAAF Diamond League scheduled on 2 June, will host the following Diamond League events: Men’s disciplines: 110hs, 1500m, 200m, 3000sc, 400m, discus, high jump, long jump; Women’s disciplines: 100m, 400hs, 5000m, 800m, javelin, pole vault, shot put, triple jump.Each meeting will have the chance to add further non-Diamond League events to the schedule, This will likely to happen in the next weeks for the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea.
The 2016 season will be launched in Doha on the 6th May and in Shanghai on the 14th May. During the course of the season each of the 16 disciplines per gender will be staged 7 times. At each meeting, 4, 2 and 1 points will be awarded to the top 3 athletes of each Diamond Race discipline staged.
The Diamond Trophies will be awarded to the overall winners of each Diamond Race at the finals in Zurich on 1st September and Brussels on 9th September where points are doubled.
