Once again in 2025, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea \u2013 Presented by IP<\/strong> reaffirmed its commitment to “Towards Sustainable Development” <\/em>showing growing attention to environmental, social, and territorial issues. This commitment aligns with the guidance set by World Athletics, which since 2020 has made sustainability a key strategic and developmental driver for the global athletics movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiatives carried out in 2025 represent a natural continuation of what began in the previous edition\u2014considered the “zero edition”\u2014when the Golden Gala formally aligned its contribution with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations\u2019 2030 Agenda and laid the groundwork for building a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Strategy<\/strong><\/a>, published in connection with the just-concluded edition, is based on six pillars covering various sustainability-related dimensions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leadership for Sustainability, Sustainable Production & Consumption, Climate Change & Carbon, Local Environment & Air Quality, Global Equality, Diversity, Accessibility & Wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process was coordinated\u2014continuing the work started in 2024\u2014by a dedicated sustainability team involving all key operational areas of the event, with support from CMA Creative Management Association Srl, a consulting firm specializing in social responsibility and sustainable development in sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main initiatives implemented include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Sustainability at the core: A Sustainability Policy inspired by World Athletics\u2019 international standards was drafted, shared, and published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Air quality: Installation of a Kunak device to monitor real-time environmental data at the Stadio Olimpico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Sustainable mobility: Incentives with Frecciarossa and ATAC, encouraging the use of public and low-impact transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Partner engagement: All event partners were involved in awareness-raising initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Responsible catering: Use of local products, reduction in quantities and plastic usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Communication & awareness: Development of a multi-channel integrated sustainability communication plan, consistently using the official hashtag #AthleticsforaBetterWorld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Nadia Battocletti as the official sustainability ambassador for the Golden Gala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Inclusion & accessibility: Guaranteed access for all, with dedicated assistance services for people with disabilities. An inclusive sports format featuring youth, master, and FISDIR competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Territorial engagement: Hundreds of young athletes took part in the Palio dei Comuni, along with inclusive competitions open to all categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Education & culture: Sustainability and clean sport training for staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Eco-Volunteers: A dedicated team supporting the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Carbon footprint: Distribution of 1,000 plantable tags to track participants\u2019 carbon footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060Athlete and fan engagement: Distribution of dedicated sustainability guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022\u2060  \u2060”ShareTheMeal” campaign in support of the Charity Partner World Food Programme (WFP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to aligning with the principles and goals of World Athletics, the event also underwent assessment in 2025 under the Athletics for a Better World Standard, the World Athletics rating system designed to evaluate the sustainability of athletics events, with the aim of obtaining official recognition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
